Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) Returns to Google Play Store

In recent years, the popular PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS (PUBG) franchise has faced a series of challenges with the Indian government. The original version of the game was banned and removed from both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store due to security concerns and violence-related reasons. This led to the Krafton company releasing a specific version of the game for the Indian market, known as Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI). However, this version was also removed from mobile storefronts last year due to similar security concerns.

Today, we have some exciting news for PUBG fans in India. After ongoing negotiations between Krafton and the Indian government, BGMI is officially back on the Google Play Store! Users can now pre-load the approximately 800 MB package, with the actual game servers expected to open on May 29. This coincides with the game’s re-listing on the Apple App Store.

According to the Play Store listing, BGMI has introduced new content, including a new Nusa map, a new quad bike vehicle, and free outfit rewards for completing certain events. While it’s not confirmed, it’s expected that the game’s new version will feature further toned-down violence to comply with government requirements. In earlier Indian versions, blood was colored green or yellow instead of red, and kills were renamed to “finishes”. It’s also expected that a daily playtime limit will be introduced, as this was a government condition.

However, it’s important to note that this is still a probationary re-launch of the game. Minister of State (IT) Rajeev Chandrasekhar has stated that this is a “three-month trial approval.” He further added, “We will keep a close watch on other issues of user harm, addiction, etc, in the next three months before a final decision is taken.”

Despite these conditions, Krafton India CEO Sean Hyunil Sohn expressed his enthusiasm about BGMI’s re-release in the country. He said, “We are thrilled to announce that BGMI is now available for pre-load. We are constantly working to provide our users with a seamless gameplay experience and are excited to welcome everyone back. We extend our gratitude to the authorities and our users for their continued support as we aim to enhance the gaming experience for our Indian community.”

So, for all the PUBG fans in India, it’s time to gear up and get ready for some exciting gameplay!
